How to fix blurry or dark webcam video

Blurry and dark video almost always trace back to one of three things: focus, exposure, or the wrong resolution being requested.
Check the physical lens first
It sounds obvious, but a fingerprint smudge or a protective film left on the lens is one of the most common causes of persistently blurry video — wipe the lens with a soft cloth before touching any settings.
Give autofocus something to lock onto
Many webcams struggle to focus on a plain, low-contrast background. If your video stays soft, add something with texture or contrast in frame briefly to let autofocus lock, then it usually holds focus on your face.
Dark video is usually a lighting problem, not a camera problem
Most webcams have small sensors that struggle in low light, producing grainy, dark footage no software setting fully fixes. Adding a light source facing you — even a desk lamp — usually helps more than any camera setting.
